About Myself

First let me say thank you for visiting this page because it means you actively thought to yourself, “I want to know something more about Andrew MacLeod Rand” and well…that’s a compliment in itself and I appreciate it!

Dad and me in the Weissenkirchen, Austria

I was born and raised in Maine and it is without a doubt my favorite place on Earth.  I attended the Jesuit College Preparatory School of Maine and then Union College in the beautiful city (yup, incredibly beautiful) of Schenectady, NY.  I began as a computer science major, but that only lasted one trimester.  C++ is not for me.  I made the switch to psychology and didn’t look back (well maybe once or twice), receiving my BS in that discipline.  Besides receiving my degree being a 4-year member and senior captain of the Union College Men’s Swimming & Diving Team is one of my proudest accomplishments.  Winning States my senior year could not have iced my swimming career cake any better.

After college I moved to the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Boston, MA.  While there I decided to give law a whirl because Skadden Arps wanted to hire me.  I did the legal assistant thing for a year and decided the most logical progression from there was obviously finance!  Acadian Asset Management was the next stop.  After about fifteen months of that I decided to return to what I actually studied and enjoyed in college.  I applied to graduate school in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and now attend Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Illinois (it’s just outside of Chicago).  This is where I will reside until at least May 2010.  Although moving to the Midwest has been a nice change of pace, I desperately miss my friends and family back on the east coast and hope to return.

In order to avoid anything that even slightly resembles Facebook’s 25 (a funnier take here) let’s keep my interests short and sweet.  I enjoy reading history (I’ll read anything historic, but really enjoy both World Wars and the Civil War) and more currently anything to do with the stock market; playing fantasy baseball (almost too much); drinking wine, bourbon, and thanks to Zach all kinds of beer; music and movies; snowboarding (I’m decent, but not nearly as good as my buddy Matt Norton); playing golf and trying to keep up with the swimming, but that doesn’t always go so well; and probably a lot more stuff, but I wanted to keep it short remember?  If you want to know more, let’s do it the old fashioned way – just ask me.  I’ll be happy to provide you with an answer.

Again, thanks for stopping by.  If you would like to get in touch with me, please don’t hesistate to do so!
